Resources For Knowing Jesus, Understanding the Revolution, and Living In a Post-Evangelical World

Also, Just Some Terrific Writing So You Know You’re Not Alone

There is no world I want to live in without Jesus. I’veĀ  spent thirty-eight years listening to and learning from the Word of God. Ironically, that’s how I ended up in the Resistance- because knowing Jesus means I recognize a counterfeit message when I hear it. That message is the Religious Right’s devotion to Donald Trump. I was shattered when the Christians I know and love blatantly followed this awful man, whose policies and behavior directly contradict the teachings and commands of Jesus Christ as they are expressed in the Gospels.

Spending Time with Jesus

That being said, I spent three years in prayer and study before launching this site. I won’t even leave the house without consulting Jesus, and I certainly won’t write or recommend resources to others without considerable thought and prayer. To that end, I offer my Spend Time With Jesus page. These books are some of my go-to guides for daily meditation. I high recommend developing and practicing a deep relationship with Jesus Christ before entering into any resistance work. We must understand the ‘Who’ before we can even understand the ‘Why.’ We need a firm grasp on both of these concepts before proceeding to the ‘How.’

Resistance Resources

Chances are you have been part of a church at some point in your life. You may be outraged by the church’s betrayal of their integrity in exchange for the power of the presidency. No matter how much or how little church experience you have, please know that the Religious Right’s support of Trump is all about power. It is most definitely not about Jesus. These books can help you understand who you’re dealing with, how this happened, and what you can do about it. As the old saying goes, knowledge is power. Hopefully these resources will help you in your journey of resistance- even to the sermons of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Remember, Jesus loves these people. We’re supposed to love them, too. Visit The Hows and Whys of Resistance for more information.

Exvangelical or Post-Vangelical?

It’s a brave new world out there, with the operative word being “new.” Actually, many people have been living on the fringes of the church for much of their lives. They’ve been dismissed, marginalized, ostracized, and told, “You don’t belong here. You’re not like us.” That actually happened to me at my last church. There’s a whole world of writers, theologians, speakers, and Jesus-lovers who come in many colors, genders, sexual orientations, political affiliations, ages, and beliefs. If you’ve been immersed in the Evangelical Church, keep an open mind. I’m just scratching the surface in my readings, so bear with me. I will add more books as I get them read. While I may not agree with every point made by every speaker, I definitely don’t agree with the direction of the Evangelical Church. Use the Bible as True North, ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom, and pray hard. Visit the The New Frontier page and watch the world open before your eyes.

Wisdom, Humor, and Amazing Writing

I need to know I’m not alone. Not in the sense of eternity, or separation from Jesus, or any of that. I need to know that other people struggle with trying to figure everything out. And I’m spoiled. I’ve been reading for sixty years or so. I’ve read thousands of books, and I’m just not willing to suffer fools or bad writing. These authors write the books that I can’t put down, and yet I don’t want to finish them because then they’ll be over.

These writers make my laugh, cry, and say, “so I’m not the only one.” They all have numerous works to their credit, and they’re all good. Enjoy.
